Summah Pool Party
I recently mentioned here that Drew Bledsoe had been traded to the Buffalo Bills and that many New England Patriots2 fans are sorry he's going. It looks like Drew feels just as bad leaving those fans behind, since he took out a full-page ad3 in today's Boston Globe4 to say good-bye to all his supporters. Drew's definitely a class act and I wish him the best of luck in Buffalo.

Parag bought a BMW5 M3 convertible about a week ago, and I finally got to ride in it last night. It's a gorgeous deep black, with almost a hint of deep blue in the right light. We took it downtown for beer and wings, and then jumped on the Merritt (aka Route 15 in CT) and sped over to White Plains with the top down. I've never ridden in a convertible before and it was a rush! Nevermind the looks we got as we cruised past everyone.
I may just have to consider getting a convertible for my next car now.

Yesterday was an amazing day for Boston sports fans. Both the Celtics and the Bruins won playoff games at the FleetCenter, while the Red Sox won both games of a double-header against the Kansas City Royals. Dan Shaughnessy called it a vintage day6 for Hub sports teams. Even more amazing than all the wins was the significance of each. The Celtics' had never played a playoff game in the FleetCenter and the Bruins had a lackluster 4-6 postseason record there. And with their two wins, the Red Sox are now 8-0 on the road this season ... the first time they've ever done that in over a century of play.
Boston fans weren't all celebrating, though, as the Patriots traded marquee quarterback Drew Bledsoe to Buffalo for next year's first-round draft pick. Even though he was the Patriots signature QB for eight years, Shaughnessy is quick to point out that he will "never get enough credit" for his contributions to New England football. While his replacement, Tom Brady, brought home the team's first Super Bowl victory, there are a lot of fans who will be sorry to see Drew go. At least they get to see him start in Buffalo and play the Patriots twice a year, though.

I'm looking forward to the new Spider-Man7 movie. The previews look pretty good, but I'm hoping they didn't focus too much on the special effects ... that could hurt the movie by taking away from a solid plot. I was checking out some cool clips8 from the movie, though, and I think I'll try to see it opening weekend.

For the last few months, I've been having some trouble with my cell phone. It wouldn't be that big a deal, but I haven't had a home phone in years so my cell phone is the only way to reach me. I got my first one five years ago and have owned three since then ... all Nokias. Well, the screen on my current model9 just started blanking out earlier this year (right after the warranty expired, of course), which makes it tough to pick a name to dial or to see who's calling you. I had contacted Nokia10 via e-mail and finally by phone, convincing them to repair it for free after they said it could cost me up to $100 to repair ... I told them there was no way I was forking out that much for a $200 phone that couldn't last a year and a half. They never mentioned that the problem I was having was actually a common issue11 due to shoddy manufacturing. If I'd known that, I would have made an even bigger deal about repairing the phone, since they had caused the issue. Oh well, I'm getting my phone fixed for free, but if you've experienced the same defects it may be worth putting in a call to Nokia USA customer care at 888.665.4228 (M-F 9-9, S 9-5).

Congratulations Elisabeth and Deb!
I watched my first Boston Marathon12 yesterday. It was the 106th running of this infamous road race and I had the good fortune to find a few convenient locations to watch the runners as they approached the finish line at the 26.2 mile mark. Elisabeth (4:39:05) and Deb (3:53:09) ran this year, raising money for Children's Hospital Boston13 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association14. Although I didn't really know what to expect (other than watching a bunch of people run by), the experience was one I won't forget soon. One runner seized up with a cramp just short of the finish line and I watched a bystander hurdle the restraining fence to help him across the line. Other runners covered the entire distance with enormous US flags or, even more inspirational, various physical or mental handicaps. You can read some of their stories and view plenty of photos at Boston.com's 2002 Boston Marathon15 site.

My roommates and I split season tickets to the Red Sox16 this year, so we each get to see quite a few games. I saw my first last night and it was a closely fought battle against our arch-rivals, the Yankees17. The sellout crowd was on edge for the entire event since there's such a heated rivalry between the two teams, but the Sox pulled out a 3-2 victory in the end. It was a great game to watch!

Monty Python Legos!
I'm a big fan of the movie Monty Python And The Holy Grail18, so you can imagine how happy I was when I first saw this Lego spoof19 of the Camelot scene. It's amazing how accurate it is!

Last Friday, a great man passed away. His name was Fr. Lucio Phillipino and he was a very dear friend of my extended family. The last time I saw him was at my mother's 50th birthday party. Although the trip is relatively short (perhaps an hour by car), we did not know at the time if he would have the strength to join us. But he did join us, and he showed us all that he would be strong to the very end. And when that time came, he went peacefully, surrounded by his dearest friends ... it was a perfectly dignified close to an amazing life. I don't know when I'll have the honor and privilege of seeing him again, but I believe in my heart that he is in a better place now, with those loved ones who went before him. Rest in peace, Fr. Lu.
