Baby Stewie!
I'm really looking forward to April 15th this year, but I'm not some freak who gets twisted satisfaction out of people's tax misery (like the IRS) ... I'm excited because the Family Guy2 is finally coming to DVD! Bootlegged copies of this show have occupied tons of space on my computer for years now, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on every episode in high-quality DVD format. You better believe I've already pre-ordered a copy! Many thanks to Gord Lacey of TVShowsOnDVD.com3 for petitioning Fox to release this off-color classic.

Goodbye Neighbor
It's a sad day in TV land. Fred Rogers, known by millions as Mister Rogers, passed away at his home in Pittsburgh this morning. As a child, I watched his show daily and always greeted him with a "hi Raw" (as my mom will be the first to tell you). All the major media outlets, from CNN4 to MSN5, are paying tribute to Fred and his many contributions to popular culture.

Rain. Blah.
Ok, so we got plenty of rain this weekend. I wish we'd gotten more snow, though. The rain didn't even help melt much of the snow that's lying around; the piles are still huge! Instead, it almost ruined my weekend plans. Fortunately, I still got together with Terrence on Saturday night and was able to get all the news about his daughter, Kyleigh, over a few beers at McSwiggin's. And I wandered around Boston most of Sunday with Casey. We had amazing blueberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast for brunch at Olive Oyl's in Brighton, then caught Jimmy Tingle6 (a comedian) in Somerville and grabbed dinner and dessert in Harvard Square. Our conversations throughout the day were at least as funny as Jimmy, so my cheeks might need a few days to recover from all the laughing ... they're kinda sore. I start my new job tomorrow, though, so I may be frowning about returning to work for the next few days.

Guinness is good for you.
Did you make it out for the Great Guinness7 Toast last night? I'm ashamed to admit it, but I almost forgot. Luckily my sister reminded me! Marc, Adam, and I joined Joanne and a few friends at a pub near Downtown Crossing for a few pints, where I bumped into an old high school friend as well. I'm not sure what the final tally for the Toast was, but that's not my concern ... I'll take any excuse to hang out with friends over a pint.

More snow?!
I feel like a broken record, but we got even more snow yesterday. Hoping to wait until most of it had fallen, we started shovelling around 9.00p last night when there was already about a foot and a half on the ground. It was still coming down so fast, though, that by the time we finished there was another six inches on the ground where we had started. We gave up at that point, but went back out this morning to finish the job. We're rapidly running out of places to put all this stuff, though! We've practically buried the fence on one side of the driveway and covered the first floor windows on the other. The weather is supposed to warm up later this week, so maybe that will facilitate some melting. It's pretty ridiculous that we might go from a blizzard to spring-like temps in just a few days, but that's New England!
Fortunately for most people (umm, except maybe car salesmen), this storm came on President's Day and didn't affect business or the daily commute. It's winter break for most schools, though, so a lot of people were apparently stranded at the airport or will miss their getaways entirely. That's not so cool, but I took this week off so it won't affect me!

This is over the top ...
I've been really happy with my new Xterra since I picked it up two months ago ... but I've known all along that if I did any work on it, the audio system would be the first thing to go. I don't want some crazy bass-machine; I just want to install some high-quality components with tighter sound. Of course, I just came across an article on Crutchfield's website about a custom Xterra8 built by a couple of guys at Rockford Fosgate. I probably won't go quite so far with my upgrades, but it's fun to imagine the possibilities!

Maeve rocks!
I had an unexpected surprise last night: I joined a few of my sister's friends at McSwiggins, a local bar. I only planned to be there for one or two drinks, but a live band named Maeve9 started to perform shortly after I arrived. They were so good that I stuck around for their entire set and picked up one of their CDs on the way out. They sang a lot of original material, with a few covers scattered throughout. One of their better songs was an a cappella lullaby that I would be all too happy to fall asleep to every night. The ladies each took the lead on a few songs and harmonized really well with one another. Each brought their own unique flavor to their music, from Courtney's breathy vocals to Rachel's sultry stylings. I don't think I could pick a favorite. (P.S. -- They look as beautiful as they sound.) If I've piqued your interest, you may want to stake out an early seat at McSwiggins on February 27th when they return for their next performance ... I'm sure I'll be there.

Less talking, more drinking.
When it gets loud at the bars, this new sign language10 should come in handy. I passed this link along to my impromptu bar crawl buddy, Marc, and he replied "Let us spring up out of our sober shells. We will soar like drunken eagles." ... how perfectly appropriate.

More snow today! I love this stuff ... hopefully the storm carried some north since I'm heading up to NH to go skiing with Marc and Adam on Sunday. It's just a day trip, but I can't wait to go. Everything looks beautiful around here, though, especially my family's house (take a look below). It doesn't seem like we've had this much snow in ages, so I'm reminded of my winters as a little kid. I'm almost ready to run out and build a fort at the back of the driveway. Anyone up for a snowball fight?
