Summary: Sports, gadgets, graphic design, and all things Boston are just a few of the topics you can read about here. Suffice it to say, if it catches my interest I'll write about it.

Boston's Social Planners

A few weeks ago, Boston.com2 went looking for the city's social planners. A few friends nominated me, but I didn't make the final cut. That's ok, though, since I lost to people like my college classmate Christine McDonnell3. My friends joke about how many acquaintances I bump into when we're out on the town, and she's one of the people I seem to run into regularly. In fact, I saw her at First Friday at the MFA4 last month. Greg will probably love Christine's plug for Lucky's5, too, since he bartends there on Friday and Saturday nights.

How fitting ...

Jon Groves once said, "People who have time to keep their web pages updated don't do enough stuff to warrant having a web page."

At long last ...

Summer seems to have finally arrived and, as far as I'm concerned, this is what it looks like:

Fenway Park

I was complaining about the temperature the night before last, but something happened between 4.00a and game time. It was sunny, warm and bright and I saw a great game of baseball with Brian and Justin. We celebrated the Red Sox win over Anaheim with margaritas at the Cactus Club, but we might have gone a little too far ... this morning was kinda rough.

Where's summer?!

I just noticed the current local temperature for Salem, MA. Only two weeks until June and it's 31 degrees out. Can you believe it?! This winter just won't go away. Sad

Boooring.

I'm getting pretty tired of this site's design ... it needs something new. Unfortunately, I'm right in the middle of a client site launch and then I've got four more projects in the pipeline. Besides, I'd like to finish my professional website first for obvious, income-related reasons. Oh, and my family just registered a domain that they asked me to put some work into. Busy busy.

Maybe I'll put up some new content in the meantime ... I've got about 50 photos to add to a new gallery. That would probably keep me happy for a little while.

Star Wars Kid

The other day, my brother showed me this video6 some kid made while messing around with a friend's video camera. Apparently, when he was finished he forgot to take the tape and his friends found it a few months later. They thought it was so funny that they uploaded it to the Internet, where someone added Star Wars lightsaber effects. If you watch the original video before the remixed version, you'll appreciate it even more. This kid never intended the public to see him in action, but one guy is collecting money to buy him some cool gifts (like a new iPod) for all his embarrassment.

We've been hoaxed.

Apparently, the announcement that Microsoft was working on an Internet-enabled portable toilet that I mentioned earlier was all a hoax7 perpetrated by the company's British MSN division. Thank God! Think about how many people could have been scarred for life if someone tried to videoconference with them while in the middle of "number two" ...

Boston goes smoke-free.

As of today, Boston will begin enforcing a ban8 on smoking at all indoor places. I can understand arguments both for (health) and against (government meddling) the ban, but I have to say that I'm still all for it. And for those who argue that it will drive business out of Boston, I think that they're full of it. Just because someone can go across the Charles River to Cambridge and smoke in a bar there doesn't mean they'll do it. Bostonians are notoriously lazy when it comes to going out ... I can't even get friends who live in Back Bay to go out in Fenway sometimes! If they won't travel across one neighborhood, what makes anyone think they'll head out of town completely?! My guess is that you may see an initial boost to business in the surrounding cities that aren't affected by the ban, but after a month or two people will return to their old stomping grounds in town, where they're close to home and more familiar with the locations.

Congratulations!

One of my best friends in the world, Mark, is all growed up now. On Friday night, he gave his girlfriend Karen the one birthday present she was probably least expecting (mostly because he said she'd never get it on her birthday) ... a marriage proposal. The two haven't set a date yet, but that hasn't stopped all of their friends from getting excited about one of the most anticipated weddings in a long time.

It may have been a long time coming <smile> but I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we're all really happy for you two and can't wait for the big day!

Linking Love, Part 2

First of all, does anyone really need to check their Hotmail this badly9? Furthermore, I don't think there's any way in hell you could convince me to use that touchscreen. Besides, what happens when someone stumbles on a site like this one10 (just click and move your mouse around) and ends up taking forever on the can. I'm all for technology and stuff, but the lines at those public toilets are long enough without some jackass sending e-mail from his Johnny-on-the-Spot.

Anyway, the weather is gorgeous today in Boston. It's perfect for No Pants Day11! Unfortunately, these temperatures also bring out all kinds of dastardly pests12. Even our friend the orangutan had this13 to say about those squirrels.

P.S.—This14 could give me nightmares for weeks.
