Something to be thankful for?
What's this? Have the TV gods heard our prayers2?

I thought so ...
Back at the height of baseball's postseason, some of you (mostly Boston fans) may recall a photo of one pissed off little kid floating around the internet. The photo showed him flipping the proverbial bird and was often accompanied by a caption like, "Hey Jeter!" I remember seeing the photo and thinking that it looked doctored. For example, the Sox logo on his chest didn't ripple with the fabric of his shirt and the socks on his sleeve looked like they'd been trimmed in a graphics editing program. I should know, since I've manipulated quite a few photos myself! Anyway, my suspicions have been validated since I uncovered this copy of the original on the web (I don't remember where ... I kinda get around). I wish I had the Sox version for comparison, but I don't keep those fwd's around for long. If you've got it, though, could you send it my way?

It's about time!
MA Governor Mitt Romney recently stated that he would approve both a new statewide smoking ban and a measure to lift the Puritan-era ban on Sunday liquor sales. Of course, he didn't have much choice in either matter, since both bills3 were endorsed by veto-proof margins in the State Legislature.

He borrowed them.
Someone want to tell me why I've got several hundred toothbrushes and a traffic cone in the back seat of my truck? Hmm, Terrence? No more Guinness for you!

Not in my house!
Somewhere near the top of my list of Things I Don't Want Crawling Around Above My Head While I Work is this little guy. Or rather, not-so-little guy since he was over an inch long. I don't know what to call him, but right now he's becoming intimately familiar with the plumbing of this old house. If I want to check out some six-legged critter up close I'll flip to the Nature channel and sit directly in front of my big screen TV thank you very much.

And another one ...
Just got invited to a 25th birthday party, only this one's tonight. (Nothing like last minute plans to liven up an evening.)

Should I be planning something, too?
In the last 24 hours, I've received invitations to a screening of In America4, a Celtics game (luxe seats courtesy of Parag and his business contacts), two happy hours, one birthday party, two holiday parties, and a debate. What's so fun about a debate, you say? This one's hosted by Frederick Booker Noe III, the great-grandson of Jim Beam5. He'll be discussing "the virtues and joys of scotch and bourbon" with Simon Brooking, the Master Ambassador for Dalmore6. And yes, they'll have tastings so that you can make up your own damn mind.
I guess the point of this post is that I need to get on the ball and figure out what I'm gonna do for my birthday before all my weekends are booked up from now to New Years. I've got one of those happy Thanksgiving-Christmas-New-Years-Epiphany birth dates, so it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. I had a great time last year, though, so I figured I'd try to round up some friends for a few drinks once again. I just hope everyone's schedule isn't starting to look like mine ...

What did you do this weekend?
I met Ron Jeremy. And then I showered for 45 minutes and used half a bar of soap scrubbing myself clean.
He was actually very personable, though, and I talked with him for a few moments about his role as Vincenzo Lipazzi in one of my favorite films, The Boondock Saints7. He said that he'll be appearing in the sequel, albeit with blonde hair and no moustache since Vinnie was killed off in the first movie.

Where Can I Get One?
I was so busy with work at the pub that I missed out on this auction8. A mere $3,550 for this limited edition statue? Sounds reasonable to me.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane ...
It's a plane. A plane with my brother at the controls as we fly 1,500 feet over my hometown! The sun was starting to set and the horizon was getting hazy, but we still had excellent visibility for miles around us. Seeing my home, high school, local malls, and plenty of other recognizable locations from that elevation was pretty cool. But you don't have to take my word for it; have a look at these photos I took.

Busy Busy
Not surprisingly, Salem was pretty crazy9 last night; authorities estimate that the crowd reached a peak of 80,000 tourists10. (Keep in mind, the city's population is only about 40,000!) I saw some inventive costumes, talked to some interesting people (if that's the right word), and even got to see a few friends and family. Unfortunately, the pub had a line around the corner from 5.00p on, so it was a bit chaotic and I couldn't spend much time chatting with anyone. The crowds were well-behaved, though. We only had two accidentally broken bottles and one pushing match, which resulted in a few spilt beers and a torn shirt (which belonged to one of the two jackasses, who we escorted from the premises immediately).
By the time everything shut down11, I'd been on my feet for about 12 hours. I hadn't eaten in that span either, so hunger overtook fatigue and I managed to stop by a party thrown by one of our regulars. He fired up the BBQ for the staff of a few local bars and had an amazing amount of food to feed us all. I did squeeze in a few hours of sleep, but now I'm getting ready for a flight with my brother. I've got one more long shift ahead of me (the last of about 10 straight evenings), but when I've recovered I'll put some photos from 1,500 feet online. Then I'm going to take a looong nap.
