College Bar of the Month
An old classmate of mine at Georgetown2 just sent me a link to Playboy3's latest Bar of the Month4. When I was a freshman in 1994, I was told that Georgetown had once been ranked as Playboy's #1 party school, but I never saw anything to prove it. At least now The Tombs5 is getting its due! I spent many nights there, working and playing, as an upperclassman. It was my home away from home and I still try to stop by when I'm in DC. One of my favorite (fuzzy) memories from the place is from Homecoming 1999. I went in with my friend Rich (a bartender that I'd worked with) and two of my roommates from CT, and spent just about all of Saturday in the bar. It was a long day that I'm sure we'll never forget! (But what happens at the Tombs ...)
Anyway, just for kicks I took a look to see if any Boston bars had been named. Playboy chose two: Daisy Buchanan's6 for MIT7 (?!) and the Foggy Goggle8 for BU. MIT is about as far from Daisy's as you can get, so I don't know why they arbitrarily chose to associate it with that school, and the Foggy Goggle is a relatively new establishment formerly known as Dad's. I went to Dad's a few times with my brother and sister (both BC9 alum), but I've only stopped by the Goggle once ... and that was a short-lived trip after Super Bowl XXXIX (one of our friends had a little "trouble" at the door). I used to frequent Daisy's a few years ago, though. I was mostly there for pub crawls and sort of stopped going because I kept running into obnoxious Yankees there (Bernie Williams, David Justice, and others). I guess that's as good an excuse as any to scratch a bar off your list.

Welcome to NYC!
The New York Post certainly isn't enamored with Pedro Martinez.
The mercurial, ferret-looking, 33-year-old crybaby duped the Mets to the tune of $53 million into thinking he's an eight-inning pitcher still capable of producing anything but mediocre numbers and gel stains on his pillow.
There was no love lost, though. When Martinez was involved in the scuffle with Don Zimmer, the Post branded him "Pedro the Punk." Guess that seems comparatively tame now.

I Told You So
Every once in a while it's good to toot your own horn, so I'm going to pat my back a bit today. When Google10 unveiled their new Maps11 feature back in February, I went on record saying that it would only be a matter of time before they incorporated the satellite mapping features of a company called Keyhole12 that they acquired last October. Although I didn't see anyone else talking about it, I added my thoughts13 to the comments on several sites that mentioned the new mapping feature. Well, yesterday the Washington Post14 wrote about a new option for Google Maps. And guess what ... it lets you view satellite photos instead of the default maps. All gloating aside, this is a really cool feature! I already checked out aerial views of Georgetown University and Boston, as well as my family house. What more can I say? I'm totally impressed (with Google, not the fact that I figured they'd do this).

Take Me Out to the Ballgame
There are some things that, no matter how bad a week you're having, can turn things around in a moment. And here's a perfect example.
