What about their palms?
So maybe there was some truth to the old wive's tale2. Interesting to note how the PR team at Pfizer spins this little ditty, too (emphasis mine).
We are in discussions with the FDA to update our language to reflect these rare ocular events that have occurred.

Who's Shelly Murphy?
Last night, CBS4 News interviewed Shelley for a segment on marketing that targets children and adolescents. It was a good piece and her work at Anne Fontaine3 and Jasmine Sola4 (two high-end boutiques) provided plenty of fodder for the cameras. The only odd thing was that they completely messed up her name! They misspelled her first name and gave her a new last name. So much for basic fact-checking. Guess that's what you get from the local news ...

Another Graduate
Congrats to my little brother on graduating from Providence College5 yesterday! Despite some nasty weather forecasts, the rain held off and everything went smoothly. I even bumped into a couple of Hoyas (big surprise) and met Tom Brokaw (the commencement speaker) before the ceremony. It's always a pleasure to watch a great orator in action, especially a consummate journalist ... he was making edits to his speech even as the ceremony progressed. I'd love to get a transcript, though, since it was an impressive speech!
It still seems a little weird that all of my siblings are now college graduates, though. Two of them are still in school (nursing and flight), but at least we've all received our undergraduate degrees. Anyway, I'm looking forward to having Brendan around Boston this summer ... we always seem to find a good time.
And speaking of good times, I'm sure that my parents will be looking forward to many more of those now that they're free of the shackles of college tuition payments!

Lacrosse in the News
I've been working as a MetroLacrosse6 volunteer since I returned to MA in 2002 and I've watched the program grow by leaps and bounds. No doubt, a lot of that growth is due to the outstanding efforts of the staff, but the increased popularity of the sport has surely contributed. Kids that may never have considered lacrosse have watched relatives, friends, and classmates take up the sport, and MetroLacrosse has been there to provide an outlet for that interest. The Boston Globe and NESN are currently running a series on kids sports and today's article, Playing Pick Up Sticks7, focuses on lacrosse. The author quotes my friend Ben in a section devoted to MetroLacrosse's efforts to bring the sport to inner-city youth in traditionally underserved neighborhoods in Boston, Cambridge, and Chelsea.
