Who I Am
My name is William Murray and I was named after a great-grandfather, not Bill Murray2 (the SNL veteran best known for his role as Carl Spackler3 in Caddyshack4). I usually go by Will, but a few people call me Liam. Let's just say that I have an Irish alter ego who enjoys Guinness5 and leave it at that. And don't even think about calling me Wilbur unless we're related or I've known you for a decade or more.
Also, some guy named Myers says that I'm an ENTJ:
Hearty, frank, decisive, leaders in activities. Usually good at anything that requires reasoning and intelligent talk, such as public speaking. Are usually well informed and enjoy adding to their fund of knowledge. May sometimes appear more positive and confident than their experience in an area warrants.
What Gets Me Going
Family and friends mean the world to me; everything else is secondary. If you want to know which TV or cellphone to buy, which scotch to try, or where to get the best Thai food in Boston, I'm apparently the guy to ask (friends say I should start charging for advice!). I've got a soft spot for redheads, but I've only dated one. I believe in luck and fate, but I also believe that hard work pays off. I could live on chicken marsala and peanut butter sandwiches, but my raging sweet tooth would miss desserts. I don't like shellfish and I generally avoid soda, unless it's diluted with alcohol. My internal clock is set about fifteen minutes late, but I'm unusually optimistic that I'll make it anywhere on time. Ironically, waiting drives me nuts, but not so much as incompetence and dishonesty. Boston will always be my home, but I love to travel (especially on roadtrips).
Where I Am From
I was born in Portland, ME on 16-Dec-19766 and lived there until I was three years old. My family then spent a few years in Providence, RI before settling in Salem, MA7 when I was six. I'm the fifth generation of my family to live there. I went to St. John's Prep8 for high school, then left for DC and Georgetown University9 in 1994. After graduating with a BA in Psychology, I took a job with FactSet10 in Greenwich, CT and lived there until I moved back to MA in the summer of 2002. After two years of freelancing, I worked for Open Ratings11, a start-up west of Boston, and then Intranets.com, which had just been acquired by WebEx12. In February of 2006, I took a promising position at Blackboard13 in Washington, DC … but I plan to return to Boston again someday.
Despite growing up in essentially identical communities around New England, I was fortunate to have parents that understood the value of world travel. I will always be grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to expand my cultural horizons with trips to over two dozen nations on four continents. I try to go on a unique trip every year and would love to see Australia next. To this day, travel is my only addiction.
